E.S.E. stands for Easy Serving Espresso - an open standard system for espresso pods.

E.S.E. pods consist of natural paper containing a single portion of ground espresso. The general standard diameter is 44 mm. E.S.E. pods originate from Italy, where they are called “cialde,” and were invented in the 1970s by the company illy Caffè for use in portafilter machines.

The advantages of E.S.E. pods:

Simple and quick preparation: reduced to just a few steps.
Variety: ESE pods are available from many brands in a wide range of blends.
Low cleaning effort: The pod is removed completely without leaving any residue.
Environmentally friendly: E.S.E. pods are made of filter paper. 100% naturally compostable. The small aroma sachet should be disposed of in the recycling bin.
